Rohit Sharma Announces Retirement from Test Cricket before England Tour

Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket on May 7, 2025. Rohit Sharma 38-year-old expressed his gratitude for having represented India in the longest format and confirmed his intention to continue playing One-Day Internationals (ODIs).

Rohit stated: “Hello everyone, I would like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket. “It’s been an absolute honour to represent my country in whites. Thank you for all the love and support over the years. I will continue to represent India in the ODI format.”

He went on to score 4301 runs from 67 matches with an average of 40.57, hitting 12 hundreds and 18 fifties.

Performance before Retirement

Sharma’s decision comes after a period of declining performances in Test cricket. In his last 15 innings, he has scored only one half-century, averaging 10.93. Notably, he was left out of the final Test against Australia in January 2025 due to poor form.

He continues in ODIs, Sharma aims to contribute to India’s success at the 2027 World Cup.
